Types of Drones: According to Number of Propellers:
Usually, drones with many rotors are popularly in use these days. But certain small drones with a single rotor and a rotor on their tail are also in use for various purposes. These drones with single rotor are helicopter type drones. They are used to provide longer endurance and faster flight to the hover bearing heavy loads.
The drones of this types have three different powerful motors, four gyros, three controllers and a servo for its effective functioning. This drone is designed with four rotor blades which can be controlled through specially designed brushless DC motors. Two out of four motors move in anti-clockwise direction whereas two in a clockwise direction to ensure its safe landing. A lithium polymer battery is used in it as a source of power.
The drone of this type has 6 motors so that it can be used for many applications. This device can gain the higher power to lift up than a quadcopter as its three motors work in an anti-clockwise direction and three in a clockwise direction to ensure an extremely safe landing.
This drone has eight powerful motors to power up 8 propellers to enable it for highly stable flight as compared to other drones in this category. It is normally used by professional photographers for taking photographs at difficult locations.
This drone is entirely different from the drones discussed above. They are uniquely designed with an airplane like the wing. But they cannot stand stable in the air as they are not competent to resist gravitational force. They can be used for moving applications with the help of their inbuilt batteries.

Very Small or micro/nano Drones
These drones are normally used for the purpose of spying due to their lightweight and tiny structure.

The size of these drones is a bit bigger than nano drones. They are usually designed with fixed wings whereas some of them have rotary wings but they lack in power due to their smaller size.
The drones of this type are heavier than other smaller drones but smaller and lighter than aircraft. The average capacity of these drones to fly is 5-10 minutes with a weight up to 200 Kg. They are popularly used as watch-keepers.
Large drones are comparatively equivalent to the aircraft in size and are normally used for the surveillance applications used by the military. They can be classified further into other categories depending upon their flying ability and working range.

Drones with Very Close Range
Most of these drones work as kids’ toys. They can fly for 20-45 minutes for a distance of up to 5 km with the help of its powerful batteries.
Drones with Close Range
The fly time of these drones is 1-6 hours for the distance up to 50 km. They are used for surveillance purposes due to their longer flying capacity.
Short Range Drones
As compared to close range drones these drones are a bit better. They can travel maximum up to 150 km with a flight time for 8-12 hours. They are normally used for spy and surveillance applications for the military due to their excellent flying capabilities.
Mid Range Drones
The drones of this type are very powerful than the drones discussed above as they can cover up to 650 km by flying at higher speed. They are also used by the military for surveillance and collecting meteorological data.
The drones of this type can fly for 36 hours at the maximum height up to 3000 feet from the sea level. They are popularly used for top-class applications used for spying and surveillance.

These drones are normally used by professional photographers and filmmakers for capturing action video footage and photographs at tough locations. Today most of the HD cameras used for action photo or videography are enabled to mount on these video drones. A drone with HD camera can be used for capturing high-quality videos.
Drone with FPV
A First Person Viewing or FPV drone can be used for real-time recording of the things as they are being watched by the viewers. These drones can be controlled with a conveniently transportable monitor. In the film industry, they are commonly used for shooting face-to-face interviews.
